D-Sight
Carla Maté Goldar is the CEO and co-founder of D-Sight, a spin-off company focused in the discovery and development of new innovative therapeutic approaches for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases of the retina. She is an expert in technology transfer and innovation in the healthcare sector. As a biomedical scientist, she soon felt the need to get more actively involved in helping research projects and ideas reach the market; re-orientating thus her professional career into strategic business management and tech transfer. She has previous professional experience as strategy health consultant, helping healthcare organizations and private corporations improving their strategic positioning and defining a successful roadmap for launching their products and efficiently optimizing their services. She has also direct experience in the start-up sector, since she worked as project manager in a Spanish start-up of the healthcare sector. There, she was responsible of the direct management of the company’s portfolio and team members. She also participated in several Board of Directors meetings of the company, helping the Executive and Advisory team to define the company’s strategy and adapt their product development plans and services accordingly. During the last four years, she has been the Head of the project’s valorization area at the Innovation Unit of VHIR. A proven record of her expertise valorizing life science projects, leading the negotiation strategy for license and collaboration agreements with other companies and helping research teams generating the expected socio-economic impact for their assets in the market. Furthermore, she has been the direct responsible of the D-Sight's research project during this period. Making her the most suitable and competitive profile to lead this project and its successful transfer to the market. When D-Sight was incorporated, she left her management position at VHIR to embark on this new entrepreneurial adventure. Motivated by the real impact on the health and quality of life of diabetic patients and national health systems globally. Carla is also a lecturer on the VHIR's Master's degree in innovation, and an active participant in the non-profit association and accelerator for healthcare ventures named Innovation Forum Barcelona. She also collaborates with several accelerator programs both at a national and international level as an expert evaluator and mentor for new entrepreneurs in the sector.
