Guillermo Álvarez Jiménez

Head of the Department of Societal Challenges | CDTI

Guillermo has a Degree in Chemical Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid. He worked in the R&D Departments of Papelera Peninsular and Cerámica Saloni, then he moved to iDeTra consultancy (Innovation, Development and Technology Transfer) where he supported Spanish entities in the V and VI Framework Programs of the European Union.

Within the International Directorate of CDTI (Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology), he was responsible for the Tecnoeuropa Program to promote the participation of Spanish companies in the Seventh Framework Program and representative of CDTI in the European Network of Innovation Agencies (TAFTIE).

Between 2011 and 2013 he was the National Contact Point of the Nanosciences, Materials and New Production Technologies Program (NMP) and Spanish Representative in the Energy Committee of Horizon 2020 until September 2015. Since then, he is Head of the Department of Societal Challenges in the Directorate of EU Programs in CDTI, participating in the Strategic Committee of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. In addition, since 2021 it is the Spanish National Contact Point for the EIT.
